I like the first kitchen. A friend of mine has a kitchen that's set up like that and it's wonderful for entertaining! Whoever is in the kitchen can still be part of the fun that's happening on the other side of the counter (where everyone tends to gather) unlike a lot of kitchens that are enclosed.
