How To: Replace Doorknobs

041808knobsthisoldhouse.jpgThe doorknobs in our new place have to go. We have more doors than ever, though, so it's a task we're avoiding somewhat (certainly not urgent but the knobs are really getting to us!). We found an article on the Do It Yourself website that discusses the ins and outs of ideas for doorknobs and how to easily replace them yourself:

Matt Fox from Home & Garden TV suggests three easy steps to replace knobs:

  1. Decide knob placement. Make a cardboard template and take measurements/calculations so it works for all the doors and drawers that are the same size.

  2. Make a hole in the template where the knob should be drilled with an awl or nail. Place the template on the door; mark the hole and drill.

  3. Attach the knobs securely.

The article goes on to say, "Doorknobs are a small touch that can be a relatively inexpensive way to reinvent any living space. Make sure to keep in mind that they should also conform to the mood and harmony of the living space."

Good advice, we think.

Door, cabinet, and drawer knobs can be really depressing, and most of what's on the market out there isn't very nice to look out, which is a shame because when you think about it, your knobs are to your furniture what your jewelry is to you!

Fortunately, I found this great company in London that sells amazing, unique knobs in every style you can think of! The shop is called Chloe Alberry and it is located on the Portobello Road, but it does have a website and sends internationally: www.chloealberry.com.

Now everything in my tiny tiny apartment reflects my style!
