Modern Cottage is a favorite site that has two really good how-to's in the archives (along with lots of other nifty posts).
One is purely decorative crafty fun, the other a more utilitarian, "i'm going to do it myself and get it right"-type of project.
The modern numerical motif coasters shown above were made on the cheap (estimated cost if you buy all materials new: $15. for "a gazillion coasters"). The instructions are perfect, filled with photos and clear steps.
The laundry rack was made because Mod Cottage had "freakin had it with that bag of wobbly sticks called a “drying rack” that you get at Bed, Bath and Targ-Mart. They never hold together but shiver and collapse under the weight of oh, I don’t know, 5 WHOLE t-shirts."
Once again, the instructions make it so clear that you feel confident that you can pull it off. So if you are in need of a new STURDY drying rack and have 45 minutes, go for it!
If DIY's aren't your thing, fear not. Modern Cottage is really all about living a totally modern life in a 84-year old small house. Check it out, you'll like it.

Hey AT! Thanks for the shout out! Nothing like a little thumbs up from one of my favorite sites!

I LOVE this site! I've been tuning in for the last few weeks and I've actually started stalking it waiting for each new post! It really addresses style outside of the 3000 sf McMansion and the "trash-to-treasure" philosophy. Plus the writing is fantastic!
I love Mod Cottage, but new posts are rare... I need a more frequent fix, Em!
