Leaf Table Runner Project at Fabric.com

1126_runner1.jpg

We warmed right up to this table runner project being shared over at Fabric.com. An easy-to-follow how-to accompanies a couple of photos of the work and we like how the outcome looks fresh and modern. The open trail of leaves would look just beautiful strewn over an autumn dining table.

The project as shown is sewn out of fabric. The leaves are small enough that you can use fabric scraps left over from other projects.

But we're wondering about possibly making an even simpler runner in this style but out of cut-to-shape pieces of felt. Maybe in a dark charcoal gray silhouette on our white tablecloth. It might look even more crisp than the fabric version and it would be super easy.

Follow the jump for the complete how-to from Fabric.com:

Here's a closeup of the hand-stitching where the leaves meet and a little bit of leaf shape inspiration to get you started. Employ a different leaf shape and get an alltogether different outcome. For the step-by-step, visit Fabric.com.

I think this might work better in felt, unless your sewing skills are excellent enough to avoid the puckers in the runner shown above.

This reminds me of Sally Shim's work quite a bit.
