One More Way to Use Vintage Suitcases

031009suitcases.jpgLast summer, Sarahc published a post with five great ways to use vintage suitcases around the home. One that we'd never thought of -- and just discovered -- is a quirky DIY project for the bathroom:

Turn it into a medicine cabinet. While the link goes through a how-to list, what we're really missing are the step-by-step and final visuals. We're skeptical, but intrigued. One big missing element: the mirror.

Thoughts on this??

To start, you'll need:

  • 1 hard case vintage suitcase (squared is best)

  • Power drill

  • Wood screws

  • Toggle bolts

  • 1X4's

  • ¾ wood molding

  • Hard as nails glue or epoxy glue

  • Paint

If anyone's actually done this and succeeded, please send your photos to chicago(at)apartmenttherapy(dot)com!

Why aren't there any pictures of the project? I guess it's not your fault, but it doesn't seem like an ideal article to pull off this internet if we can't see what it might look like, or diagrams to clarify the instructions.

It seems like a lot of people are obsessed with old suitcases for some reason. I never find them attractive for all these different ideas but maybe it's because I have allergies to dust and mold which would be quite comfortable in an old suitcase.

I'm not that comfortable with other people's used old luggage, I admit, but I scored two beautiful old pieces from my parents' attic. My first reaction to this project was what a way to crud up a nice old suitcase, but of course that was obscured completely by the lack of pictures to go with the instructions. I'd rather see something some people can use.
