This home has a sense of style and life lived large. It's not shy or retiring - it's all about color - powerful colors used in subtle ways. It's pink and purple and green and melon and turquoise and plenty of other brave, beautiful colors. More photos:

Above the jump: "The Ella Altar" - a photo of Ella Fitzgerald hung above a French desk. Walls are Martha Stewart's Grisaille for Sherwin Williams.

The walls in the living room are Benjamin Moore's Driftscape Tan, a mauve tone.

Mahalia Jackson portrait by Richard Thomas in the dining room. The chairs feature a toile called Louisiana Purchase.

Green walls are Benjamin Moore's Castleton Mist.

We love the look and had to share it as a little bit of color inspiration for the upcoming Color Contest here on AT (yes, it's that time of year again - details will be posted soon!). Designed by Hal Williamson for a client who loves "Pucci. Painted furniture. Parties." - he says the house "looks a lot like her".

OMG. That's so beautiful it hurts. New Orleans has a style like no other city in America. It's flamboyant and bohemian and tropical and Old World elegant all at once.
