A Modern Vacation Home in Indiana
Azure

interiorindiana1010509.jpgMany Chicagoans squeeze in few escapes from the city each year. We have friends with a getaway cottage in Michigan and have enjoyed spending idyllic days with them at the beach, picking apples and antique hunting. We can totally "get" why folks choose this part of the world for vacation homes - especially when you factor in the very short trip from Chicago. This month, one of these homes is featured...

...on the cover of Azure. While the location (Michigan City) is familiar, it is not your typical south shore cottage - it is a very modern home designed by Brad Lynch.

The L-shaped wood and glass structure is set in a wooded preserve close to the shore. According to the owners it has been a pleasure to visit throughout the seasons as well as a perfect backdrop for their vintage furniture collection. Check out the article by Edward Keegan and more photos by Christopher Barrett right here for all the details.

Me want. Except, not in Indiana (no offense, went there to summer camp as a kid and it's not my idea of vacation land).

However, out here in Oregon - yes!

One thing that does make me a bit nervous though is the seemingly flat roof. Rain, snow and the like.

Still, this house is absolutely stunning.

One of my favorite looks has always been MCM furniture w/ Persian rugs - and I associate that look w/ Chicago, for some reason. Great house, flat roof notwithstanding :)

Amazing! I only question the location. As a former Michigander, I can say that St. Joseph's, just a few stops up from Michigan City by train, would've been fabulous.

Of course, that's just me! And "me" is envious as hell at that vacation retreat!

What a beautiful home - I would have chosen a scenic spot overlooking Lake Superior near Sault Ste Marie (If I were intending a place in the Midwest)

...and as long as the roof structure is properly engineered to handle the snow load, a flat roof can work just fine - in fact, snow makes a great insulator.

I know the area fairly well and am dying to know where this is. I want to try to check it out.

Perhaps the location has to do with family in the area?

I lived in Indiana for five years. It's...not worth vacationing in. :P
