Natural wood is a great backdrop for jewel tones, which play up its richness and warmth. Lately, we've fallen in love with the look of bold reds, used as an accent against more subdued blonde and dark woods...

I think what works well here is that the red is just a hint and the wood is still more prevalent, or there are other dominant colors.
Throwing in black and a cooler blue is nice too:
