Apartment Inspiration for Album Lovers

We've written before about our somewhat impractical love of old LPs, so we know that a few readers out there still have vinyl collections. If you're an album lover, storage can be an issue. We've rounded up a few ideas from films, DJs' apartments, and other sources...

1 This bedroom from the movie Almost Famous is a classic 60s-style space.
2 Unplggd has a great post on DJs' living rooms.
3 Chris and Stephanie's Hip Lower Haight Home includes a built-in music station.
4 The projects gallery from UK manufacturer Deconomix offers lots of inspiration.
5 For major collectors, Rob Gordon's apartment in the movie High Fidelity contains drool-worthy album storage.

I have hundreds of records and use the Ikea Expedit bookcase. It is pretty much perfect for storing records. In fact almost everyone I know has a huge album collection, and with very few exceptions everyone uses the Ikea Expedit bookcase. (Even the vintage furniture collectors with no other Ikea in their house.)

Anyone have a suggestion as to what I can use for my two turntables for a counter/surface. I have my TV on top of the expedit bookshelf otherwise I would use that.

Just don't store them on the floor. My brother did (years ago)and then his waterbed exploded (long story) soaking all the album covers and pretty much destroying them. (The vinyl was salvagable, but the covers are what many people really love...) Waterbeds may not be an issue in your life, but take it from me, other events can flood a place unexpectedly, and the floor is where the water will go! (Washing machine hose, in my case...)

My boyfriend loves his vinyl and his record player and he is getting a new apartment this summer. I want to get him something that will either hold all his albums and his player or get him some decorative album stuff for his apartment, something like those vinyl's that are molded into bowls, Any ideas?

Cubbieblue854 - as a vinyl lover myself, please check with the boyfriend first about stuff like bowls made of old vinyl - he may not like it! It breaks my heart to see those old LP's destroyed to make disposable decor that's fun for like 2 minutes. Same for clocks, coasters, etc.,...

Here's how I keep my records organized. This was used with two Ikea cabinets stacked on top of one another. I wish I could still remember the name of the cabinets so I can find another one because the record collection keeps getting bigger and bigger.
