I applaud the use of color. Even if I don't agree with the color itself.

OMG, I have the same "backsplash" tiles, but mine are painted an avocado green. It goes with the avocado green 70's stove, and the white, green, and gold-speckled laminate countertops. Yummmmy rentals! (can't wait to own so I can rip out a kitchen and do what I want)!

Is it necessary to have 3 chairs at the table? The two matching chairs look great alone, I think. Maybe it would give you a little more room, too?

LOVE the pink! I've seen pink kitchens before, but usually only the walls have been pink -- this is far gutsier. Remember, pink is the equivalent of black in India -- i.e., goes with everything, and is always chic. Fuschia and Magenta are very popular in Europe.

i like the use of color. but that table with a tulip chair doesn't look good at all.

The before wasn't so bad, and the after isn't so bad either. I like the idea, but that particular shade of pink makes my teeth hurt.

I think diana vreeland said that pink is the navy blue of india. what a lovely sentiment. imagine if all the bankers on wall street wore pink pinstriped suits... this kitchen is perfect for that kinder, pinker alternate universe.

well, except for the addict poster that kind of scares me.

Love the pink cabinets! Your kitchen looks more cohesive to me now... and certainly much cheerier!

Love the idea of color; not such a big fan of that particular shade of pink, but it definitely livens up the kitchen. I'd like to see more of your accent color--orange I think, going by the towel. I think it'd make the room look more pulled-together. But now that I think about it, it could just be that the low angle of your 'after' pictures is messing with my perceptions by emphasizing the ceiling in a way that happen if you were actually in the room.

also, the light bouncing off the cabinets sheds some pink onto the floor. watermelon-y.

i also disagree that the "before" was ugly. but i agree that the "after" is lovely.

Please get new chairs to go with your new kitchen! The tulip chairs, as lovely and iconic as they are, don't work with the Liatorp table. Your use of color is brave and delightful! Infinitely jealous (as a renter).

Thanks for all the nice comments. The kitchen was painted on a whim, and accessorized with things I already had. The only money I wanted to spend now before I get around to gutting it was on a litre of paint. And frankly, the pink isn't quite the colour I wanted but for some reason, I wasn't digging the pinks at the Benjamin Moore store I went to and finally just chose this one. Maybe it's incentive for me to get going on a renovation. Also, I kind of like the tulip chairs with the table (which isn't Ikea, and again, wasn't planned).

I'm going to be different and say that the thing I love most about your old/new kitchen is that little silver cart!!! I want something so neat and organized! Where did you get it, and what do you keep in all those jars? I'd love to know...

I got the cart at an industrial-type reuse warehouse. It's been so handy in the 3 homes I've had it in. The jars were lined up on metal wall-hung shelves in my last kitchen. They're filled with tea, flour, sugar, oats etc. etc.

Well, I see that somebody reads Quality Magazine! Or at least has seen the movie about it's most brilliant editorial inspirational moment and took it to heart!
