Before and After: Nook by the Stairs

10-28-08entryway2.jpg

Found on Normal Room, this nook by the stairs was nice before, but it's even better after the addition of a lamp, a new side table, a comfy chair, and a rug. It goes to show how much lighting and just a little color can transform a space. We'd love to read a book in this cozy spot. On our search for more photos, we realized we'd seen this home before. Click below for a peek inside...

It's the lovely and ever-evolving home of k2yhe, which we found in our Cure Flickr Pool last spring and featured on AT:Chicago.

What an amazing difference! You'd almost never know it was the same nook.

Wow, the nook by the stairs looks exactly like the one at my place. Same stairs, wall color, moldings, except that ours has a built-in shelf on the wall under the stairs.

love the before and after - the light really warms it up and I love that chair!

That nook is nice - but the table is about 4" too tall for the chair, and that lamp is screaming for a larger shade.

See, I like the first one better, but then, I'm told that my decorating choices make my home cold.

The after does look a little stuffed.

I'd happily settle for the 'before', they're both lovely, but the lighting most definitely improves the space!

The table and chairs are Paul McCobb planner group. I know because I bought them from her :)

Does anyone know where I can get the metal (?) circular artwork in both before and after? I'm looking for something to filter out an ugly bathroom fan.

Does anyone know the designer/group that produced the chair in the "before" pic? That's my dream dining chair!

IMO, the matching woods and lamp make the "after" nook, not necessarily the furniture pieces themselves.

Does anyone know what the table is in the second photo? It is exactly what I've been looking for in a bedside table.

I think they both look nice - but honestly, is anyone going to sit in the nook. by themselves. in the corner. near the stairs?

I am with "ami" - that is totally my dream dining chair too, so someone please tell us who produced it!

It's nice, but why would anyone want to sit next to the stairs?

To Hinke and homebody - I could see someone sitting here to put on/take off their shoes (but not linger).
