Carrot Bouquets as Display

1006_carrot2.jpg

At a party we attended this weekend, we spotted bouquets of carrots arranged in simple glass vases. The carrots were down in the water and their greens sprouted out of the tops. Guests at the party eventually even plucked carrots here and there from the arrangements and nibbled away. We didn't get any snapshots, but these pics give you the idea...

We also spotted this photo on flickr of a similar arrangement sans-carrots. Someone's made a carrot salad and saved the pretty greens for display in a vase. We love this frugal way to add a bit of greenery to the home. So, the next time you're serving carrots, think about serving them as-is (tops on) in vases of water or prepping the carrots and keeping their tops for display. We promise, the outcome we witnessed is smashing!!

LOL An edible display! Would be pretty with different colored heirloom radishes, too...

Reminds me of a friend who, during a meal with some foreigners (I forget from where), tried to eat some ornamental greenery on display at the table.
