Clear Glass and Plastic Furniture

9-26-07glassfurniture.jpg

The invisible room. With the popularity of clear glass, plastic and lucite in home design, we've been thinking about what it would be like to live in an (almost) invisible room. Without the budget to build a glass house or furnish an invisible room, we did the next best thing and put together a style tray of the best furniture you can barely see.

Victoria Ghost Side Chair, $294 at DWR
Peakaboo Clear Console, $329 at CB2
Round Bough Mirror from Oly
Transparent Magazine Rack from Kartell, $147 at Haus Modern Living
Sea Urchin Vases, $15 - $22 at Jayson Home and Garden
Baren Glass Shelves from IKEA, $9.99 each
Bourgie Tample Lamp, $323 at DWR
Clear Glass Knobs, $5.45 at Cool Knobs and Pulls

Where would we put our glass room? How about a Richard Neutra Home or a glass house by Mies.

What do you think about barely-there furniture? Is it good design or clearly overrated?

I bought the ghost chair (with arms) and cb2 table to use as a desk set. LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it turned out! I live in a small studio and didn't want to obstruct the light near the window (see flickr photo link). The table is sturdy and a perfect desk height. The chair is surprisingly comfy. Would def recommend. Have received lots of compliments!

I just bought the new Ikea "Tobias" chair for my desk last weekend and I absolutely love it:

It's super comfortable (I've sat in the ghost chair - love the way it looks but not how it feels) and even looks great with my less-than-mod desk!

I'm really interested in the peek-a-boo coffee table from CB2, but am curious how it would hold up to regular cleaning. Has anyone ever had a tabletop like this that can testify to it's long-term durability? It would break my heart to look at the surface in a year from now and see swirl marks.
