Color Chip: Vintage National Geographic Yellow

2008-04-07-nationalgeo.jpgMagazines as decor? Why not? While these are obviously loved and have been read many, many times (check out the worn spines in the close-up), these old National Geographics are also providing a hit of brightness to the dark, monolithic bookshelves. We love how the organizer of these shelves isolated out the yellow magazines into specific cubes, creating an almost Mondrian-like composition.

The various maps that come with some issues also make for great (and cheap) decorating that is easy to update and switch around!

That is an all-around gorgeous home, and a great use of a National Geographic collection (definitely a magazine worth collecting!).

Absolutely love the red tufted sofa. I'll never look at National Geographic magazines the same way. That's so creative to use them that way.

This reminds me of a magazine spread I saw a few years ago about a hotel somewhere in Europe where one of the rooms was inspired by National Geographic yellow. They built a platform bed out of wood and old National Geographics. I think about that spread all the time! I wish so much I had clipped that out. Still kicking myself that I didn't.
