apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Color Close-up: Mint Green

It's not exactly the easiest color to pull off, but mint green can look very fresh. It all depends on the look you're going for and the colors you choose to pair it with...

I would call the shade featured in the first shot "hospital green." Almost every old house or apartment I have ever lived in had a layer of it dating back to the 40s or 50s. It must have been THE color back then!

I just did all white cabinets in my kitchen with minty jadeite knobs and pulls. it looks very fresh and ads a lovely pop of color that can be reinforced with other jadeite accessories such as mixing bowls and the like.

very reasonable option also.

I will grant that the first photo may be someone's bedroom, in which case the dress makes some sense. Maybe it had just been washed and was being air dried....

But frankly, I just don't get the use of clothing on hangers or hooks as an item of decoration. It just looks weird to me. I think b/c it's so far from the realm of function.

The main colour in my RV is mint green--it's the colour of the blinds, the valances, the bucket chairs, and more. I cannot wait to get rid of that dated, hospitally, pukey colour... and green is my favourite colour! There is just something sickly about 'mint' green. Maybe because it doesn't even resemble the shiny, healthy colour of fresh mint?!

my kitchen is a very light mint green and I love it...though I do sometimes get a flashback to my doctor's office as a kid

I love mint green and cream together, but I don't really feel like any of these pictures really captures how great mint can be.

I painted our bathroom a light minty green last year...I wasn't so sure at first but it really grew on me. It feels very soothing in a bathroom:

Mint green and dusty blue always give off a sort-of "Grey Gardens" vibe to me.

These are too muted for me; clear mint is great.

I'm with you Jean. The only one I see that is
kind of close to what I call mint green is the 2nd photo.

The color should be the shade of the inside of a chocolate mint. These colors aren't.
