Color Combo: Green and Gray

6-13-08greengray7.jpg

"Although you sit in a room that is gray, except for the silver of the straw-paper, and pick at your pale white gown; Or lift one of the green beads of your necklace, to let it fall; Or gaze at your green fan printed with the red branches of a red willow; Or, with one finger, move the leaf in the bowl -- The leaf that has fallen from the branches of the forsythia beside you... What is all this? I know how furiously your heart is beating." - Gray Room by Wallace Stevens

We love this poem by Wallace Stevens, which eludes to the emotional charge that color can have. (To read it properly formatted and not condensed into paragraph form for our blog post, click on this link.) A few gray-green rooms and rugs for you:

I love Wallace Stevens. Green and gray is nice, too.

I'm using similar colors in my house. It's nice how they can look gray in some light, green in other, and the different color reflections highlight some of my accessories differently - I have a photo of some stones on sand taken at the beach, and have noticed different details standing out when the wall color looks different.

I love this color combo, so calming especially since grey is my favorite color!

I love it. What a restful palette.

I've been poking around and looking at furniture online and Oka Direct (in the UK) has lots of a sort of greyed finish wood.

It looks fantastic.

Beautiful palette, one of my faves.

It is "alludes", though (as in "allusion"), not "eludes" (to avoid or escape), fyi.

You could probably make your own with tin snips and thin metal.

I have always been a huge fan of this color scheme. In fact, I love gray with almost anything...almost.

The stairs are so pretty! These colors together seemed strange, but I'm beginning to accept it!
