Color Combo: Orange and Blue

It's been a while since we posted a new color combo, but the warm weather here in Chicago has inspired us to pull together some bright photos featuring orange and blue. It's not the most common pairing for interiors, but these complimentary colors (opposite on another on the color wheel) can really make a room sing. Not for the faint of heart, this is a bold combination that looks great with crisp white...

They're the accent colors in my Brown-almost Black and White living room

My kitchen has yellow/orange walls (think cheese dip) and cobalt accents with natural cherry cabinets and pecan floors. It's more like the above photo of the blue couch than the others and everyone that sees it remarks on how warm and happy a space it is. And it is!

I like the color combo, but not digging these examples, other than the Dwell nursery.

Of course, I love orange with just about anything:)

and the same photo owner has an amazing blog with serious overtones of orange and blue.

I unexpectedly came up with this colour combo in my bathroom and I have to say I am quite surprised and happy with the result.

I love orange and blue. The Dutch have combined orange and blue for years. Just ask Hope College alumni.

Yeah - I'm sure when done well this would be nice. However, being from Colorado makes me think orange blue = Denver Broncos every time.

I don't love orange and blue, but I'm over the moon for a turquoise/tangerine variation, especially when those colors pop against brown neutrals. So fresh and fun.

Does anybody know of any nice throw pillows that incorporate orange (ideally a dark rust orange) and (robin's egg) blue? We've been looking for a while and can't seem to find those tones together...

too much of a college sports combo for me, though I suppose it can be done right.

I think when people say orange and blue that it means variations on the shades therein. To me Orange and Blue are many a college sports team but when I think orange and blue I think turquoise or robin's egg blue with a much more golden orange.

Burnt orange and a grey-blue are the colors I use throughout my downstairs. It's a nice combo.

My room is orange and blue - I have beautiful turquoise curtains (with sheers in front of them) and the alcove in which the big windows are set is painted a (slightly rusty) orange. Calm from the blue and energy from the orange. The combination has really worked for us!

Love the first picture! So fresh and crisp. A breath of fresh air, and a nice transition from winter to spring. I usually pair yellow and blue with white.

I'll try it out with tabletop items first and see my husband's reaction. He's not big on orange (except when it comes to cats).

Go Broncos! I saw WAAAAAY too much orange and blue out there over the years. Maybe variations of the two rather than the fully saturated versions would be OK?

I always love orange and blue together! I actually just blogged on my painting project today:)...I use a similar blue as the nursery photo. I ADORE that nursery! Should I ever have a boy...

Sarah, these may not be exactly what you had in mind, the orange is not quite rust, but I just bought two of them:
