Color Combo: Warm Purple with Wood Tones

9-12-08purple3.jpg

Purple can be a tricky color to pull off, since it can lean towards warm (red) or cool (blue), and just a few degrees either way can cause it to clash with other colors. We really like seeing a warm, reddish purple paired with neutral wood tones. To us, this tones down purple's royal reputation and makes it seem a little more accessible. I LOVE that plummy purple. It's very easy to live with.

Looks great with reds and olive, or really, most shades of green.

Lately I've been buying purple flowers almost exclusively.

Love this color scheme! I have something similar in my living room, except my browns are darker and the purples are mostly a deep royal shade.

I always forget that purple is one of my favorite colors until I see it presented like this. I would die for a purple wall but it wouldn't make sense with my blue/brown color scheme...sigh.

I completely agree. It's hard to find the right combo. I was at a giant fabric warehouse yesterday just running around looking for the right purple. It also looks good up against a yellow-gold.

I recently completed my (now most beloved) tiny budget kitchen, and I had to find a friendly colour to compliment muted black benchtops, soft white cabinets and tiles, and chrome finishes.

I thought - hmmm, purple is needed. (Everyone else said stick with white. Safe, nice white. I've been reading AP that long now that I knew it was time to make a stand and resist.)

The right purple is hard to choose - too pink or red, and it's nauseating, too blue and it can be very cold.
It takes a long time to choose the right hue. Purple is tricky.

Resene Paints (a great New Zealand paint company) have delicious paints with great descriptions on the website.
I was swayed by name (I know, I know, how shallow) and crossed my fingers.

Hello 'Rum' purple.
I'm so glad I took the plunge.

This is how my bedroom is decorated and I love it. Dark/medium wood furniture, plum duvet, and curtains I sewed from Kaufman fabric in purples, tans, and white. My walls are painted a tan color. It is very cozy and chic.
