Color Combo: Yellow and White

Sunny side up. For the past couple of years, yellow has been injecting a sense of humor and lightheartedness into interiors, and we're into it. We especially love lemony yellows paired with white. The combo reflects light, feels fresh, and doesn't take itself too seriously. Click below for a few examples...

I was a young married (in the 70's) when this kind of yellow was in vogue. I loved it then. I can honestly say I don't miss it at all. I will never use it again. Never. Once is enough.

Yellow is about my least favorite color - but I will admit that the Jamie Drake Bedroom does look inviting and the Heath Tile in the kitchen is amazingly beautiful.

I painted my kitchen a yellow called "soft duckling" last summer and still luurrvve it. It's just so cheerful!

The only thing worse than yellow is pink. An accent here and there, sure. But cabinets? Walls? Not for me. Still, a yellow kitchen is better than a yellow bathroom, because the latter is just screams "urine" to me.

Hate the top 4 photos. Too bright. The muted shades and tones are much easier on my eyes.

They say yellow stimulates aggression, as well as impair motor functions. As much as I do adore a proper splash of yellow in decor, I don't think I could live in a room dominated by it. It makes me twitch thinking about it.

The right yellow is such a personal thing. I prefer the bedroom butter yellow. That classic Mercedes Benz yellow that we no longer see.

i like yellow and gray together. not a bright lemon fresh yellow more of a butter or straw for me.

I agree with those commenting that some of the yellows are too bright, too perky. And click212 is absolutely on target, regretting loss of the elegant Mercedes Benz color, a butter yellow that we simply no longer see. That was a yellow with depth and style.

Of all the color combinations I can think of, yellow and white remind me the most of the '70s.

Yellow and white remind me of eggs, sunny side up, everytime. What is it with yellow kitchens? OMG, every apartment I've lived in had (and still does) have a yellow kitchen.

That said, there is tons of yelow in my house that I've yet to paint. It's fairly tolerable but really, are there no other colours?

Sorry; when I look at it I think "All it needs is some orange shag carpet to complete the look." Way too ugly 70's for me; not all yellows are bad, but this bright yellow is too garish.

My mom had a yellow & white kitchen in the 70s (sounds like a lot of people did) ... I may just be nostalgic but I loved it! I am definitely partial to softer lemon yellows, and using it as an accent, rather than overwhelming the room. My grandmother also decorated one of the bedrooms of our summer cottage in yellow and white... done in the right way it can be really beachy and crisp. Now I would probably save it for a guest room or child's bedroom.

That top kitchen would be great for dieters. It would totally put you off of food.

Like many, I think that the lemon yellow and white do not harmonize well. You need an earthier, brownish tone of yellow to create some kind of contrast. I enjoy a lot the Zara tablecloth and the Heath Ceramics tiles.

I had a teacher in high school that always remarked "Yellow is the color of insanity." Unfortunately, I can't get that out of my head when looking at so much yellow.
