We love a long drive as much as Sarah in Missouri does - but we love a long walk even more. Yesterday, with temps topping 70 degrees, we set out for a long, much needed neighborhood walk. If only every day could combine a blue sky, cool air, and bright autumn leaves. But alas, those days are few and far between, it seems, so we savored the moment with some photos to inspire some colorful shifts at home:

i could go for that except when i get out of work it is pretty much dark out already, and that's only 5:30...

I brought a few branches of colorful fall leaves back to my apartment. They dried up a little, but still look beautiful! I like these better than buying fresh flowers for the apt.

a) the weather in the Midwest the last few days has been fan-freaking-tastic.
b) evening walks this time of year have the best smells. fallen leaves that have been warmed all day by the sun, random bursts of brilliant colors on different trees each week, fresh dirt from people raking leaves, woodfires burning and the toasty aromas of my neighbors cooking dinner at night.

I love taking walks at night in the fall, for all the reasons Ms. Amanda mentions and also for the spectacular views along my regular route.
