The effect highlights the angles of the home, particularly in the spaces with vaulted ceilings. Some areas, such as hallways, incorporate standard white ceilings as a pause between spaces. Although wood paneling tends to darken a room, the wood grain in these photos actually seems to reinforce the vertical lines of the roof. The white walls (punctuated by windows that frame the landscape) seem to recede into the distance. For more information and photos from the Hayama House, click here.

I love wooden ceilings - It promotes a natural sense of shelter that you won't ever get with painted sheetrock.

I want to love this but, it feels very claustrophobic.

Just looking at these photos I'm overcome with serenity and calmness... my goodness. The ceilings and that combination of dark wood and white are to die for.

I'm wondering about the construction of the ceiling. Maybe they put wood veneer onto sheetrock? Why not? There's no stress on a ceiling.

Feels claustrophobic to me too - I really don't want to be "aware" of the ceiling hovering over me when I'm in a room

It's lovely, but the windows seem surprisingly small for a new design.
