The work of Chicago architect Douglas Garofalo is the subject of a solo exhibition at the Art Institute.
Garofalo's work includes the new Hyde Park Art Center, the Center for the Visual Arts at Western Michigan University, and the Northstine Residence in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
You could argue that he hasn't built much yet, but neither had Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Thom Mayne at this point in their careers, and they're all Pritzker Prize winners. I think we can expect Doug in that league at some point."
In a Sun-Times article on Garofalo, Chicago Architecture Foundation President Lynn Osmond says, "He pushes the limits, he challenges, he thinks conceptually. Look at Hyde Park, where he's taken a historic building and made it new and exciting.
A new series of books from Yale University Press, titled A+D, begins with an accompanying catalog on Garofalo by Joseph Rosa.
The show opened this month and runs through October 8, 2006.
