Dream Home: Design Report - The Bedroom by Matt Lorenz

2007-09-19Lorenz- Bedroom.jpg

Room: Bedroom
Designer: Matt Lorenz
Inspiration: luxury textures, unexpected finishes

Favorite ideas to steal:

  • super shiny white glazed porcelain tile as a wallcovering
  • matching mod transparent glass pendants hung low over the two nightstands
  • floor to ceiling drapes surrounding the room
  • fresh flowers on the nightstands
  • (At the Dream Home preview, each of the designers spoke to the press about their inspiration, design ideas and sources for their rooms. We're going through our notes to do "design reports" for some of the rooms over the next few days.)

More of Matt's inspirations and ideas:

  • an antique foo dog sculpture on a pedestal overlooks the room
  • lush, luxury textures: fine Italian linens, silk rug, leather floor tiles
  • drapes as architecture as well as light control
  • patterned leather on the x-base benches
  • calm, yet dramatic colors used throughout
  • a 1940's bright, colorful framed painting

This looks like a bedroom for some old Hollywood celebrity like Ava Gardner, Clark Gable, or Bette Davis...very pretty.

I saw him yesterday on WGN were he discussed this room. It really looked great live!! It was a bit too much GLAMOUR for me, but it's great for those who are going for this look.

For the love of all that is Holy, I know this is only a web designer's pet peeve; but he'd have a wonderful site going there if it wasn't for the horribly pixelated images they've used! What in the world?! Quick Matt, give me a call!
