Room: Dining Room
Designer: Tom Stringer
Inspiration: The rooms of Syrie Maugham, Francis Elkins and Elsie De Wolff
Favorite ideas to steal:
reverse-upholstered dining chairs - the striped uphostery is only on the backs of the chairs
interiors of the shelving are painted lavender - to show off the white china displayed there
HUGE bold geometric rug -covers nearly the whole room
monogrammed napkins - a bespoke tabletop touch
(At the Dream Home preview, each of the designers spoke to the press about their inspiration, design ideas and sources for their rooms. We're going through our notes to do "design reports" for some of the rooms over the next few weeks.)
This
IS Tom Stringer's dining room. Well, of course, not exactly, because it is in the Merchandise Mart's Dream Home. But it will be...this design will be implemented in his own place as soon as Dream Home wraps up. Everything you see here is either from his place or is on it's way there - so you know it was designed with the client in mind...
Unusual materials/pieces:
Chocolate Limestone tile floor
Shaker linen on the seats of the Antique dining chairs/Striped silk on the backs - so you see the more decorative fabrics when the chairs are tucked in and the more durable fabric is used on the seat
Alabaster table lamps
Croc-embossed vinyl wallpaper

This looks like a room in a hotel.
