We went to the kickoff party for the Dream Rooms at Merchandise Mart - it was a packed house, full of cocktail-sipping interiors fans checking out the rooms done up by the designers. We managed to snap a few photos of details from the rooms that we thought were especially interesting...possible future trends and offbeat ideas:

Decorative Nailhead Patterns on Upholstered Pieces
Huge Maps as Wall Covering
Icy Colors and Clear Accessories
Strong and Varied Textures on Walls and Upholstery
"Digitized" Floral Wallpaper (this was gorgeous in person!)
Tufting
Very Large Scale Patterns for Upholstery
The Dream Rooms are open at the Merchandise Mart through July 12. Monday - Friday, 10am to 5pm and Saturdays 10am to 3pm. Admission is complimentary.
I have always wanted a big, poofy, round ottoman. Love the color of this one too. :)

That's a very interesting collection of things... by themselves they are fantastic and walk this rebel line of design guru who knows how to pick furniture with great lines.
But borders on being heavy if falling into the wrong hands!

ugly.. as most trends can go in a bad decade or yealy movement..but as sarahrae nicely put it the right person can make it happen, maybe.

oooh. I love tufted these days. I think it's classic. The map wallpaper doesn't do it for me, but I love the oil painting portrait. I own one; the subject is moi (almost 20 years ago now) and I've been wondering if I dare hang it. It's a nice painting, but it's ME and I just don't quite dare to hang it yet.

I would LOVE to have an ottoman like that! (although maybe not hot pink for me...)
I love the feel of these rooms too--it's a great collection of lovely pieces and gets far away from the perfectly matched rooms that have just never seemed entirely livable to me.

I have always wanted that ottoman, large enough for a cocktail tray and a few friends to perch whislt mingling.
I would also take it in a smaller version for my completely imaginary dressing room.

Does anyone know from where we can buy the ottoman?

I'm loving the map stuff too but maybe as a large art piece rather than wallpaper?
