Escapes: Bookstore Coffee Shops

8-3-07bookstore.jpg

When we're in the mood for a cheap escape, we head down to the bookstore. To avoid overdoing it on books and magazines, we stick to shops with in-store cafes, where we pick up a few good reads to browse with coffee and dessert. It's a good way to get our design and caffeine fixes in one trip, and we leave the store with new ideas to try out at home.

The gorgeous library and cafe shown above were designed by Brewster Hjorth Architects in Five Dock, Australia. If only we could escape to Australia...

Don't forget to try this in libraries as well. The Oak Park Public Library has beautiful design elements as well as an independently owned coffee shop inside. Then you can check things out to take home with you when you're done perusing the goods.
