You may remember the piece about Wilder in the Tribune magazine a while back; it was a treat to see a vintage East Lakeview apartment get the SSBS treatment.
What really impressed us about the decor: the scale of the furniture throughout is just right for the 700 square foot space.
The antiques are sized so well for apartment living (as well as being very attractive - not a surprise if you have ever visited his shop.)
Another interesting bit of design: Strong colors (walls/cabinets) are used throughout, moving from a goldish/green entry way through a blue living/dining room, past the red lacquer kitchen cabinets to the pumpkin bedroom and yellow media room. The intensity and clarity of the tones are similar, so it works. The overall feeling is cheerful and focused, not jarring.
The bathroom keeps its vintage fixtures but is updated through a patterned wallpaper (to disguise and smooth rough walls), a chandelier and again, bold color.
Our favorite bits: the windowseat/radiator cover/storage area, the formal entryway, the artwork throughout.
If you missed it, SSBS Episode 304 will be airing again this week: click here for the schedule.
I saw it this weekend and Iloved the chandelier in teh bathroom. It really dressed it up. I also adored the entryroom. It was simple and welcoming.
Is there a photo of said chandelier anywhere?
Anna:
if you can excuse the not very good quality of the picture...i just snapped a pic of the chandelier from my tv and added it to the post.
yay for tivo and digital cameras!
I'm curious about a couch featured in this episode. The couple had it custom made and the arms swing around to the front to become leg rests. Has anybody seen a sofa similar to this? Click my name for the link to the picture of the sofa.
I saw that sofa too and when they changed the configuration of it within seconds I just about fainted...I WANT ONE!!!
Click on my name to see a sofa that kind of does what you're explaining. I have yet to see the episode, so if I'm way off forgive me!
The couple with the sofa run a graphic design firm (with a website, below) perhaps they are reachable for info on the custom design:

LOVE the rug. Where can I get something similar? Or at least something in similar colors?
I saw the episode too! Great place.
Did anyone else notice that they said svenska mobler was in the wrong neighborhood though?
Sheri here from the episode, you know the one with the sofa? I somehow just stumbled upon this and can tell you that the sofa is made by Della Robbia and came from a store called Rico in Brooklyn. We bought the fabric, they ordered it, it was made in Italy and shipped to us. It also goes flat to become a bed. Which is why we purchased it.
Best of luck!
