We just took our first look at the IKEA 2009 catalog, and unlike last year where our initial impression was color and pattern everywhere, this time around its all about black and white. The classic pairing definitely seems to be the color story that the IKEA stylists want to tell for 2009 and it looks good. Jump below for lots of pics:

I got mine on Wednesday, which was a pleasant surprise. I was slightly disappointed that all the things marked "NEW!" that I actually liked were things I already own!

I love that rug on the cover...a cheap version of the same one on the cover of Elle Decor this month.

I'm MASSIVELY frustrated: I still can't order one, and I don't get them delivered because I live in a town without one.
The Ikea.ca website says "Visit back on Aug 1 2008 to order!"
It's the 2nd. Last year they were all gone before I had a chance to order one.

Does anyone know what that B&W fabric is hanging from the windows in the 2nd big photo (the one with the two kids playing in it)?
I've been looking for big graphic black and white fabric to make curtain panels for our dining room, and I can't seem to find that pattern on Ikea's site (and Marimekko is a bit too pricey per yard for the amount I need).

rika99 the B&W fabric is from the Gunvor series. I recognized it because I bought a tonne of it for our upcoming wedding and made table runners out of it. Its great and very thick.

Here in Toronto IKEA created a 3,300 sq. ft. downtown showroom staged with a dozen vignettes to present the new products. For a look at the showroom: http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/07/right-now-ikea-catalogue-launch/

I'm hoping to get my catalog any day now! I may end up just driving the less than 10 minute drive and see if I can just pick one up at the store.

Thanks Hollie! The pattern on the Ikea website for some reason looks way smaller than in the catalog photo so I couldn't readily identify it. Those must have been very cool table runners!

I gripe about not being able to order online..anything I want! But..wow..unbelievable prices on the furnitue...Is it true..that you really are seemingly limited to online purchases, unless furniture? I did ask the helpful little IKea icon lady..but she only tells me what 'they' want her to tell me..ha..So glad that the HOT PINK is my new 'live it love it' feeling color..pots/vases and in prints..with my lime-ish..white and black scheme..(black in frames) ..

I have spent well over $1000 at Ikea so far this year, using a credit card. Do they send the catalog to cc customers? I used to get it, but I seem to have been dropped from their mailing list!

Seems to be a lot of black and white.

I tried to get a catalog and it says I can't yet (Sunrise is my local store). :(

Yesterday when I went downstairs to do laundry there was a big stack sitting next to our complimentary newspapers. I snagged two. :D
The one item that has really jumped out at me is Sveje striped rug (only $13!). I'm torn between the black and white and the orange and white. Maybe I'll get both!

I was at Ikea about 2 weeks ago and they had begun installing the new items in displays. There were some really nice kitchen cabinet doors that were new to the kitchen line but not yet for sale.
Glad to see Ikea is working to keep things interesting.

I own the Melltorp table. For 70$ it's an awesome table. It's metal or metal like - and a lot heavier than I expected. It's a pretty basic table.
Overall - totally worth the money!
