We've been looking at apartments lately in anticipation of a move this spring. Our top contender is a third floor attic apartment that reminds us of the European-style lofts we've seen on AT and across the web. (The Dutch attic apartment shown above is one example.) Despite the odd roof angles, attic apartments have the potential to be airy and open spaces, thanks to some well-placed skylights and light-colored walls. In search of a little inspiration, we rounded up some good photos...

ooh, love the habitat apartments, i just rounded up some attic bedrooms that i want: http://otisandfrank.blogspot.com/2009/03/attic-bedrooms.html

like the one with the sliding glass doors that leads to a patio/balcony

The lamp above the dining table in the first picture is ridiculously low. Otherwise it's gorgeous.

i love these apts, mainly the third one. i always loved the high ceilings of the apts in my area. i never thought i would get use to my current attic apt but i love it! its huge despite the low & angled ceilings, and all of my windows are floor to ceiling so i get tons of light up there.
i definitely have to rely on floor & table lamps and removed the lighting the landlord had in the ceiling after a couple friends walked into the fixtures. lots of broken glass but luckily no cuts. i felt pretty bad though!

It was the loft bedroom on the 3rd floor that sold us on our place. We climbed the steep stairs and looked at each other. That was the deal-maker. So romantic!

My kitchen has ceilings that slant down to counter top height on both sides. Luckily, I am very short so i can stand comfortably at the counter and stove without my head hitting the ceiling. This doesn't work so well for my tall boyfriend though. It took some getting used to but I love how cozy and unique it makes my kitchen feel.

How odd, has my earlier comment has been censored?

The orange and white first photo is fascinating. Kind of like an RV without wheels. Must be a studio apartment, very futuristic. I kind of like it. Make a great place to live for a few years while in Grad school or some such thing...

I've always loved attics. Sadly, not many to be found here, but I still love sloping walls and odd nooks.

I had an attic room when I was in art school, with a peek-a-boo view of the mountains. I miss that room! For all that it can be impractical, I love the lines, and hope our next home has that kind of character.
