Every once in a while, we receive questions about how to decorate if you rent an apartment with wall-to-wall carpet. We fully believe that carpeted homes can be just as stylish as ones with hardwood floors. Some of our favorite apartment tours feature wall-to-wall carpet: Dominic's Vintage Gold Coast Gem and Stephanie's Life of Pie are good places to start looking for inspiration. In case you've got a carpeted apartment and you're searching for ideas, we've rounded up a few more images to get you going...

Does anyone know where I could find that bedside table in the 'Shaw Carpeting' picture?

why is carpet seen as a design setback? it muffles noise, feels soft and helps insulate.

unfortunately the beautiful carpet in these photos is rarely what you find in a rented space. I suppose a large area rug over typical renters carpet could help remedy that

Or how about that round coffee table in the "Tatami Natural from Merida" image? Does anyone know where that's from?

Um, Landlords don't install elegant $15/sqft patterned Shaw carpets or plush woolen Kasthall carpets from Sweden...
...they install the $1.29/sqft beige polyester crapola from "Floors-R-Us" that fuzzes for weeks, then matts to an impenetrable and impossible to clean surface.

Plus carpet starts to retain odor, especially if you have doggies who like to sleep on the floor. Thankfully, I have an awesome eco-friendly carpet cleaner guy who comes in every two to three months for me. Kills allergens, freshens, cleans. I can’t wait to find a place without carpet.

I have dogs, and could never imagine having carpet. It'd be such a nightmare to keep clean and not retain odors.
Luckily most flats in Chicago have hardwood floors. Carpet in an apartment is a deal breaker for me- just as bepsf said: it's always cheap, fuzzy, and hideous.

oakland, I've seen a side table similar in World Market ads. Not sure if that's where that particular one is for. I really like that patterned carpet in the pic, but I'm sure it's pricey.

I've managed to make my apartment look good despite the hideous and ancient carpet.
I've accidentally damaged the carpet in one place. I'll bet a month's salary that my lazy apartment manager will keep my security deposit and leave the ancient, now damaged carpet for the next tenant.

I have a dilemma maybe somebody can help me. I've been in this apartment for almost 20 yrs, same carpet and it needs to come up and be replaced....LL won't do it and won't let me do it (about that later)....so I'm going to take the carpet up anyway. But I don't want to spend a bundle on flooring. What do you suggest I put in its place? It's a berber type carpet....over restrictive tile....I was thinking an area rug, but I need to have padding underneath...the room size is 14x14. You can email me: wrightinchicago@yahoo.com
