Inspiration: Headboards from Floorboards

090208-biglots1.jpg Even if we never buy anything, we're always up for a good game of bargain hunting. After checking out our local Big Lots (which was a serious retail disaster), we came across a fantastic $18.00 bargain. What is truly meant for the floor could easily end up on our wall. 090208-biglots2.jpg Back in the home decor section we came across three large pallets of faux- wood flooring. They were all tongue and groove, so they are an easy assembly project for the average DIY-er.
After a quick snapshot, we decided that these packs of 10 panels (although they probably aren't the most resilient on your floors) would be perfect for a headboard. Liquid nails might come in handy if you wanted to adhere them to a removable panel (Masonite at your local hardware store would work great and is inexpensive), allowing you to remove it from the wall when you decide to redecorate.

If a headboard isn't your idea of a good time, we can see backing a media center with a stripe of them up the wall, or possibly inlayed on your bookshelves to create some depth (if your bookshelves don't look like ours... packed to the gills). Or if you are feeling super about the scroll saw, you can always glue up the boards, draw a design on the back to cut out and hang the relief on the wall.
$18.00 bargains could be in your neighborhood, don't forget to take a look!

I've often thought that this kind of stuff would make good paneling for a feature wall - but instead of laying it vertically, I'd do it horizontally to accentuate the length of the room.

That sure is shiny for a floor!

I like the idea of laying it horizontal on the wall, bepsf :)

Great idea! If you lay it horizontally you could intersperse some narrow shelves, too.

(And holy cow is that a shiny floor!)

Candace Olson used wood flooring on a wall backing a bed several years ago on her show Divine Design. It was laid horizontally and it looked fabulous.
