Inspiration: Scandinavian Modern Apartment

Looking at British retailer Skandium's site today, we came across this sweet Scandinavian Modern apartment that's been decorated with clean-lined furniture and a few bold prints. Click below for ideas to steal from this home...

The white walls and neutral furniture make the artwork and graphic prints (like the Marimekko wall hanging and pillows) stand out.

Another basic background with a few striking patterns: the wall hanging, the checked pillowcases, and the blue and green bedspread.

We love the natural fiber rug in the living area, the bright red blankets, and the long storage piece against the wall.

The bed is a disaster, but I like the rest of it!

I love how colorful it looks even with white walls. Agreed that the bed is the weak point.

At first glance I thought that was a poang sofa. Love the artwork.

It's funny to look at furniture that is so similar to Ikea but that I haven't seen a thousand times. Kind of like looking at candy bars in a foreign country: looks almost exactly the same, but everything is different.

Well, Ikea has to get their inspiration from somewhere ;). For me the kick is seeing these familiar (guess where I'm from) furniture in a foreign setting (Victorian London).

I live in Sweden and I am SO ENTIRELY bored of seeing practically everyone's home in neutral tones with just that dash of colour to be daring *cough*. The general flair (if it can be called flair) of many many maaaany Scandinavian homes is neutral neutral and sterile and bare. So easily done -and so little imagination needed. Come on over and just see our architecture (chokes out another cough) - if you are beholding the average Tom, Dick and Harry's (okay I mean Sven, Lars and Birgitta's) house/apartment, you will quickly learn that our buildings generally look like boxes and the traditional way of painting houses over here is with 'falu' red and white window panes. *yawn*..... Sorry but I couldn't keep my mouth shut on this one. P.S - Who reckons most plastic furniture is the cream of the crop anyway?! Ikea? Gees ! Gimme a break. And gimme something to get excited over.

P.S - Okay I renig on one thing - at least this person decided to go against Swedish norm by putting something different as a floor covering (even though it is neutral). Yeah and the bed needs a makeover - Some ppl look at too many Ikea catalogues....
