Grids make almost anything look organized, which may help to explain the popularity of gridded furniture like IKEA's Expedit Shelves, DWR's Cubits, and other modular shelving systems. Lately we've been admiring Italian furniture maker Mobileffe's shelves...

We couldn't find any pricing, but Italian furniture manufacturer + fancy catalog photos + sleek modern furnishings = probably pretty expensive.

Still, these photos offer some good ideas for styling less expensive grid shelves like the ones mentioned above. The rhythm of books, vases, and a few empty shelves looks relaxed but pulled together.

We also like the way the books are stacked in vertical and horizontal configurations. Some rooms are defined by whole walls of shelving, while others are divided by low stacks of shelves.

Absolutely gorgeous, I love the chunky shelving!

AMAZING!!! I usually don't like books sitting out on shelves, but these just look like amazing art in those beautiful shelves and the fact that all of the books are bound in white or ecru. I LOVE the neutral palette in the photos!

I love the decor but I can't get past the books piled on top of each other.

I agree with modernguy -- I know it's just photo stying, but I really hate to see books abused that way, even the idea of books as decor components rather than the individual treasures that they actually are, and which deserve respect and care.
