Inspiration: Two Mexican Hotels by Joseph Dirand

Parisian architect/designer Joseph Dirand has a knack for updating classic color palettes and mid-century furnishings for the 21st century. You can see his signature black-and-white aesthetic in two very chic Mexican hotels: Distrito Capital in Mexico City and Habita Monterrey in the Sierra Madre mountains. Minimal and modern, these hotels both offer some lessons in using clean-lined furniture and neutral palettes...

Although the range of color is very limited, there's a lot of diverse texture in these rooms. Marble, wood, leather, steel, black onyx, and Indian mirror mosaics all exist happily side by side. Space plans are well thought-out, with headboards that double as countertop desks and dining areas that provide a range of seating from large communal tables to banquettes. Both hotels are owned and operated by Grupo Habita, the luxury hotelier behind many of Mexico's best design hotels.

Normally I'm not into the animal skull aesthetic, but I find something about photo 6 so striking and beautiful.

Also the view of the mountains makes me want to cry in a good way.

I'm surprised more people haven't incorporated the idea shown on pic 7 into studio/small space designs.
