Les Fourmis' Campaign Sign Reuse
Montreal

The US elections will be over at this time next week: so what are we to do with all of those campaign posters the day after? We could follow the lead of the Quebec group, Les Fourmis (The Ants), who put political signage to new use after Canada's recent election. Click through to see the happy fate of these campaign posters...

Birdhouses! Les Fourmis organized a design and implemented it with stacks and stacks of colorful campaign posters. The resulting birdhouses are graphic and abstract, with a great big politician's eye here, oversized lettering there. The campaign signs were removed by the group from around their headquarters and transformed into simple birdhouses and messenger bags.

Who are Les Fourmis?
Anonymous people, citizens, neighbours and friends who get together to express themselves, share and shake things up a bit. They do it for their city, in their city and in life in general.

I've got an improvised art portfolio made from elections signs from 2000. It's funny to see the old slogans years later!

I *LOVE* this idea. Now I have to go see if there are any of these good coroplast signs left...

Weird tangent - there are Obama signs springing up in my neighborhood. I've seen 3 within 2 blocks this week. Not a big deal, except I live in Ottawa, Canada.

How bizarre that they're only Bloc and NDP signs. wonder why?

It's because Harper's gang had pretty much removed all of their signs by 11am. I was there - we removed all the others during lunch. It's too bad, the red would have been fun to play with.

LoriSF - but wouldn't it be fun to chop up your least-favorite politicians?
