We've got a thing for barn conversions and another for shelving, so when we spotted this library barn conversion on SpaceInvading, we were hooked. Designed by MOS Architects, the space includes a writing studio as well...

The conversion has two levels: the library on the first floor and the writing studio (shown) above. Both floors share a heating and cooling system that relies partly on ceiling fans and natural ventilation to circulate air.

This shot of the second story shows light being filtered up from the first floor. The patterned dots are actually perimeter vents that circulate air between the two floors.

We love the way the simple white shelving divides the space, with book counters running through the center of the room. The original barn beams and flooring are retained, while glazed windows permeate the sides of the building.

Amazingly beautiful reuse of an old building - It's just a shame that it's privately held and not a public library...

Love the holes emitting light!
As a librarian, I'm not so sure it would be a good public library. All that white? The acoustics would be difficult for more than a few people at a time, with all those hard surfaces. It's lovely but not nearly pragmatic enough for a public space that would need to be maintained on a budget. (SMALL budget.)
