Does everyone have a piece of furniture like this? A basic that you have grown to love and one that you will most likely hang on to forever - because it simply works. Move to a new place and in whatever room, for whatever job, you can count on it...

Melissa describes her armoire as "Superstar Furniture" in today's post on Suburban Bliss. The armoire is a $150 bargain find that Melissa's husband Logan improved and reinforced by adding shelving to the previously empty interior.
Over the past few years it has served the family in the bedroom as a wardrobe closet. Then, in a new home, it moved to the family room to store the kids stuff. Now, in their latest place, it is pressed into service in the dining room as kitchen storage overflow.

Check out Melissa's full post for her humorous (as always!) take on the armoire, its history and the fact that the purchase just may be the "best money" she's spent.
Thanks, Melissa!

Although I've only owned it for a few months I know that my mcm dresser/credenza is always going to be with me. It's in my bedroom now but when I have a bigger dining room I think it will live in there. It's walnut, it's beautiful and practical and I love it!

my great grandma's singer sewing machine base is my fave and I will have forever. It has gorgeous curvy legs, and is very sturdy (considering it had to house an old sewing machine). It currently holds *covers face in embarassment* my old 27 in tv in my bedroom. It used to be a side table, and it used to be a telephone table. I'll never get rid of it willingly!

Although the armoire has become a much-maligned symbol of the 80s and 90s--especially since the advent of flat-screen TVs--it has its place.

i miss my beautiful cherry armoire.....the one I bought in the 80's (the most expensive piece of furniture I'd ever purchased at that time). The movers did a real number on it last year when they dropped it out of the truck!
miss you cherry armoire!

I have a cedar armoire I bought from a junk store in 1995, along with the desk I still use today. For the two of them I paid about $300, then about the same amount to have them repaired & refinished. The armoire has held a TV, dishes, clothes and now comforters. It's precious to me!
