Miranda: Surface Tile That Begs To Be Touched

Ever since we were little, we've had a small obsession with fabrics and brushing them all the same way. We blame our Grandmother's suede couch and don't get us started on making all the lines on the carpet go the same way when we vacuum. So when we saw this cool new surface tiling we actually "squeed" outloud...

Squee is a technical term by the way, blame Spongebob for our lack of formality. Moving on, Giles Miller is the mastermind behind this cool new treatment. We love it's versatility and ability to be applied to almost any surface. It brings texture without print and adds a certain playfulness that's sure to be the focal point of whatever room its in.

Each tile (3x3 meters) is composed 65,000 injection molded polypropylene fibers that sit in a tiny ball and socket joint. Although it can be made in almost any color, it would keep the designs, you or your guests, make on it monochromatic as the direction it's pushed alters the shade of the base color.

We hope to see a pocketbook friendly version of this soon!

B. I thought I was the only one with the fabric brushing and the vacuuming, lol.

I see myself standing in front of it all day making different shapes and words.

I wonder if this can be used as flooring???

Looks like cilia. And I found this neat architectural thing, that shows something similar that moves:

There's a video. Could be used to harness wind currents for energy. Check it out.

At work we have this suede material that we make into drapes, romans, slider panels.. etc. They're pretty sweet- really soften up a room... but the sliders we have on display constantly have smiley faces, flowers, names, and the occasional swear word drawn into them. It's funny at first but eventually it drives you mad. "BE SMOOTH, DAMN YOU!" but no. Once they're drawn on, you can never seem to brush it all the same way again.
