Modern in Memphis: Sky Cottage

Located in Memphis, the striking home called Sky Cottage overlooks the Mississippi. Designed by Archimania and built in 2007, it fits on a tiny, odd shaped lot...

...with one section of the house aligned with the street and the other section turned to face the view of the river (photo 5, above). This home is all about the view - the massive windows are just part of the glass used in the design - walls of glass are also utilized inside to allow light into and views from more interior rooms (photo 4).

Our favorite design touches:

  • The bright red bedding - including headboard cover and pillows (photo 1).
  • The partial-height fireplace with only the chimney extending upwards - a really nice way to divide the space while allowing for both sides of the room to enjoy the view (photo 2).
  • The wooden walls and similar looking built-in cabinetry used throughout - it turns storage into an architectural detail in a very modern way (photos 2, 3 and 4).
