apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Modern in Toronto: Cascade House

Designed by Paul Raff Studio, this house is both gorgeous and green. According to Arch Daily, It was oriented on the property to maximize natural light and features a triple-height slate wall that helps to retain the solar energy warmth throughout the home during the evening...

...as well as looking beautiful (and acting as a chalk drawing surface for the kids - as seen in photo 2).

The glass privacy screen/window that faces the street (photo 1) is made up of "475 panels of inexpensive vertically stacked glass panels" that allows for plenty of light to enter the space. From the inside it "evokes being caught up in the crest of a wave".

Minimal yet very warm (we think that it is thanks to the natural materials such as wood and slate as finishes) the home is another in the growing list of examples of luxurious yet conscious home design.

This is the reason why Apartment Therapy should have an "International" section. Have bloggers to point out gems from non-american cities... Toronto, Montreal, London, Paris, Tokyo, etc.

A work of art. That window/view in the bathroom is perfect. The house seems designed to maximize the impact of the ever changing views outside. It reminds me of a glass house I had the pleasure to visit a long time ago...with carefully planned Japanese gardens outside...beautiful.
