Janel's post on the modern exterior and yard of a country house featured in Domino Magazine reminded us of this project by design firm Claesson Koivisto Rune. (They also made those cool Amazonas Nesting Tables for Offect that everyone loved this year at ICFF.) Although much more minimal than the Domino magazine house, this home takes a similar approach to designing for the countryside, using a modern exterior with bold signage in contrast to the leafy landscape...

Like the Carina Schott home, this house was designed for a family. The natural light and open spaces are organized to make the outdoor setting the home's focal point. The interiors are simple, and the No. 5 motif carries from the outdoors into the home's design scheme.

Working in Stockholm, the team composed of Marten Claesson, Eero Koivisto, and Ola Rune designs everything from homes to interiors to products. For more information, and to see their portfolio, click here.
OK -- I'm not usually a fan of modern design, but I happen to think that red chair rocks. Can anybody tell me who makes it?

Hi, it's a Saarinen Womb Chair by Knoll.

Good heavens! it's also a $3000 chair. OK, I don't like it that much.

Fireorb (the company that makes the stunning suspended hearth) uses this same house in their gallery of on location shots.

What a beautiful, sleek home.
Shame that we can't get more simple, elegant homes built like this in the US - Seems that so much built these days is derivative of 18th & 19th century styles.

I seem to recall just one shot of the exterior when this appeared in a magazine. Thanks for the additional photos ...
.... but I see a motif of 6 reappearing inside, as in number of seats. Is there something 5ish I'm missing?
I also can't quite see this as a home for young kids. There's nothing squishy and comfy to lounge on, which is a main element throughout the Schott home an on its pool deck area. Also, the porch dining area above would put toddlers at risk with its lack of balcony rail.

Ter,
"Children" and "austere minimalism" usually don't belong in the same sentence. But that's coming from a guy who loves minimalism and views children as punishment for not wearing a condom.
No need to flame me by the way.. when my girlfriend reads this she will hurt me real bad.

I can't help but think that fireorb borrows heavily from focus fireplaces. It rubs me wrong like a knock-off Eames lounge chair. http://www.euroflues.com/categories/fireplaces/suspended/1
That house is awesome, though.

That's unspeakably beautiful.
I've always admired their furniture (from afar -- it's pricey as hell) and am not surprised to see their house looking as good as it does.
As to those fretting about where toddlers will fit into this subtle scheme. . .
The answer is: trust to the divorce rate, lads and ladies. Hee hee hee.
