Possible DIY? The See-Saw Bookshelf

There's a certain twinge of pride that comes with seeing a designer product and knowing you could make that at home for far less (or even at all). Often times those projects are shelving (hey we're not that talented) because of their basic lines and joints. This See-Saw bookshelf is the next one on our diy list...

We love the playful nature of this piece, but we know when we check out a designer's website and it says "inquiry for price" our budgets will probably be a little short. Instead, we turn to our tools and local lumber store!

Now, even though this bookcase has the ability to move, there aren't any moving parts, which makes its construction possible for the home diy-er. Because of the load it will be holding, we would suggest using a hardwood instead of the home diyers best friend MDF. Is this a project best left to the pros? Or one you'd be willing to take on?

Playful is right! I like the spirit of this. Reminds me of the sixth grade... me and my best friend reading Nancy Drew on the see-saw while everyone else played dodge ball.

It's cool, but the dogs already think the living room is a playground - I can picture them leaping on and sending books flying through the house.

LKmen . . . my two cats are exactly the same . . . and the visual I'm getting is fantastic.

I love the design but, the OCD in me would constantly be re-arranging books so that it was always balanced, lol.

Awkward height, and nothing practical about it. I can appreciate whimsy, but this wouldn't hold many books, and renders the space above it rather useless.

I don't get it. (look: it see-saws; so?)
