apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Small Space Ideas from an Austrian Hotel

The Hotel Daniel in Graz, Austria packs a lot of modern style into its modestly priced rooms. Designed by Berlin-based Werner Aisslinger (designer of the LoftCube), the rooms fit multiple functions into a small space...

A wooden banquette serves as an area for sitting, eating, watching TV, or staring out the window. Part of the bench is cushioned, with another part left bare to use as a surface. Rolling C-tables can be pulled up for snacking, and a tiny television is mounted to the corner of the bench.

Beds are simple platforms with oversized, upholstered, and framed headboards. The headboard creates one main focal point for the room and sets the tone for the rest of the furnishings. Sinks are floating, wall-mounted models with compartmentalized storage underneath. The gridded cabinets create visual interest and also provide a place to stash bath supplies.

I think it's great and looks easy to clean between customers.

I really like this. I think my next bed will be a platform bed.
