Style Combo: Stripes Mixed with Plaids at Home?

012909plaidstripeman.jpgSpotting this striking fashion statement of stripes and plaids brought to mind the gazillions of striped home ideas we've seen, and ever-increasing plaid ones too. This got us wondering what AT readers thought of combining the two. On the one hand we've got a tartan trend, and on the other we've got gorgeously striped color accessories from Modern Plaid...

A visual to help realize this daring style: striped and plaid rugs from Crate & Barrel Outlet show that one of each in a room side by side could actually make a really interesting statement:

Sartorialist isn't this "funky" with the photos of men...

That plaid wall treatment is heinous.

Outfit is fine, the hat ruins it! Still dislike the plaid wall. The pillows and throw are nice and I don't care for the rugs. So I guess the answer is - it depends.

Yes, Sartoralist Wed, Jan. 21, 2009 - 'On the street Luca Rubinacci, Florence'. Also check out Wed, Jan. 28, 2009 - 'Mixed Paterns'. The right mix and attitude pulls it off. Helps to look as good as someone like Luca too. The hat, the color of the inside of his upturned collar and those eyes put it all together.

Mixing patterns can work, but it helps to be sensitive to how the colors interact. I don't know in what world that coat "goes" with that shirt & tie combo, but it's full of colorblind people.

I remember this picture from The Sartorialist, I was in love with it when I first saw it. Plaid and stripes are both prints I love, but I've never been able to figure out how to mix them. But this might just inspire me to try.

I'm not fond of mixing patterns, I find it often looks terrible, but if he wants to come to my place and prove me wrong he's freely invited ....

Too busy for me. But I think that man could pull off most anything.

I'm all for mixing plaids, stripes, paisley prints, anything really... as long as the colors go together. Sorry but that outfit does not work. Too many blues, the red and purple clash as well, ditto for the yellow of the coat and the orange of the tie and that hat wouldn't look good on anyone. So I guess we know he likes girls because he doesn't know color.
