The Olde Bell Inn: Traditional Meets Modern

7-8-08oldbell1.jpg

Renovated from an old coach house and Tudor barn in Britain, the Olde Bell Inn is a perfect example of a traditional building that's been updated for this century using simple, spare furnishings. We're showing the space for it's brilliant use (and re-use) of natural materials, which reminds us that sometimes the most environmentally friendly thing you can do is work with what you've got and keep it simple...

Our favorite firm - Studioilse - designed the space, and we particularly love the bedrooms for their tranquility. This look is also fairly easy to imitate with thrift store finds and natural materials. The trick is decluttering your own space so to achieve the clean, peaceful vibe of these rooms.

I know many will say this is boring, but I find this color scheme absolutely serene. I plan on replicating this in my Sausalito home with beautiful views that overlook the bay.
(Oh wait, I need to win the lottery first, then buy the house).

i should have known it was studioilse! one of my favorites as well. i absolutely love the neutral palettes that they use, and such a great mix of textures.

I love it. I'm a big fan of repurposing and using what you already have.

Absolutely serene, agreed. Especially the bedroom; but the various lighting styles seems disjointed and distracting.
The wall mounted sconces are great, but maybe get rid of the floor lamp and put in a modern ceiling fan. A big, bright painting above the bed might bring more personality in as well. Just some thoughts.
