Understated, Comfortable Style from the Rockwell Hotel

Designer hotels are often about making a statement or attracting attention, but London's Rockwell Hotel (designed by Michael Squire) is a refreshing departure from trendiness. Decorated with comfortable, neutral sofas and warm wood tones, the public spaces look like real-life living rooms...

The building is a renovated Victorian in South Kensington with 40 bedrooms. Squire & Partners restored the facade and painted it white. Inside, walnut floors and bookcases evoke the material palette of an old English lodge, updated for the 21st century. The color scheme is mostly neutral with pops of red and green, as well as hints of pattern on a hallway runner or a wallpapered accent wall. The design appeals to us for its sense of livability - the space plan is organized around intimate conversation areas that would translate well in a family home.
