Video Tour of Nate Berkus' Chicago Apartment
People

nate060209.jpgWe missed this tip in an email flood about three weeks ago but thought it was worth bringing to the forefront today. A quick video tour by Nate Berkus of his ...

...Chicago apartment is available for viewing at People.

A few details we liked from the video:

  • Nate's got a nicely organized landing strip in the entry - maybe he did The Cure?
  • The monogrammed cocktail napkins at the bar are a fun touch.
  • A wall of books surround the television, making it feel like a library/lounge just as much as a media room.
  • The carpeting in classic patterns (stripes, links) add plenty of visual interest while staying fairly subtle overall.
  • A fireplace in the bedroom is just one of those dream items.
  • We were surprised to see how current the kitchen cabinets and counters look even though they are from a remodel done in the 50s.

Nate Berkus is almost freakishly handsome. He must be evil.

I must be getting old. Everything flashed by too quickly. I'm sitting here going, "Wha? What was that?"

What I could make out looked really nice though.

He is so good looking and has such charm, I didn't really even look at the apartment. I can see why Oprah adores him so much.

I'm not sure I would use the word "flood" in a description of anything Nate Berkus-related... Kinda insensitive if you ask me.

Oh, no one was asking me? Okay; as you were.

I agree with carlitadee, it went by way too quick. I don't remember a thing from his place! But from what I saw it was nice, though a bit dark for my tastes. :)

i kept going back to try to see the bathroom, but i couldn't make out much of anything. what kind of floor is that. it looks like the hexagon tiles, but i can't really understand if they are marble or what.

Carter76, good point. Maybe Janel doesn't know about Nate's loss(?).

Love the bathroom and closet! Most of the kitchen looks amazing, too. I just don't like the big gaps around the cooker. I completely understand why he wouldn't want to touch the kitchen cabinetry as is, but that space seems a bit odd.

carlitadee and grafxnerd -- I'm with you.
As long as videos are posted with the "NYPD Blue" style of jumping around, jerky camera motions, etc, then print magazines will thrive. That style may be fine for the Blair Witch Project, those of us interested in design and decor want to study the images.
That said, Nate's a cutie, and his apartment is probably very nice. (I say 'probably' because I can't really see it very well.)

On the issue of "moving too fast": pause it. You can stare at the details as long as you like. It's the 21st century.

I agree with m. I think it looks better in pictures than in real life - especially the living room. I think the scale appears different in pictures than with people in it and the lighting is better in photographs. That being said, it is a very nice apartment.
