We browse through photos of beautiful spaces every day on Apartment Therapy, but when we came across this picture from an Italian fixture and fitting company, we were riveted. This is our dream room. We've always lived in apartments where we have to lug our dirty clothes to a laundromat or dark, scary basement. Having our very own bright, organized laundry room is a persistent fantasy. We're wondering...

My dreams most certainly do not include doing laundry.
My dream room is a chic living room with cockails and jazz -- and not an open kitchen in sight.

My dream room is a studio/lounge with...
1. A big table for big projects, and a corner for my tool bench.
2. Lots of drawers and shelves.
3. A large floor sink for wet projects.
4. Lots of natural light, and big doors that open into the lawn.
5. A library/seating area with a few big chairs.
6. Concrete floor.
7. Good stereo system.
This would be beyond a dream because right now all my art and craft supplies are mostly in the spare room, but also scattered in every hole of the rest of the house. I would love to be able to leave a project on the table instead of clearing it for dinner.

My dream room is actually incorporating the outdoors inside; an atrium. Not exactly a "room" but it's my dream addition.

I've actually always wanted one giant room as an apartment with partition walls and LOTS of windows!
But I totally want this laundry room as well.

My dream room is an Amdega or similar conservatory, but with an actual greenhouse and aviary attached, too. I would love to have citrus trees, gardenias, and herbs throughout the winter. In fact, I wouldn't need the house--except for a small kitchen and laundry room.

It's a room where I can sit and read. Lots of windows with sunshine pouring in. A comfortable window seat, and some cozy chairs. A fireplace and no drafts in winter. French Doors open to an outside terrace in summer (there are no insects in this fantasy) and I can hear only birds and, sometimes, rain outside. No traffic noise. And at least one wall of bookcases.

But I like Kimber's atrium idea a lot, too.

My dream room is a mudroom. Door to the backyard with a doggie door entrance. Five lockers, one for each family member. A dog shower, washable floor mats, tile floors. Washer and dryer, adjacent bathroom. All of this to keep the fur, the mud, the leaves and sticks OUT of the house. A girl can dream, can't she?

I love this laundry room, and I am very jealous.
I have to say, the room that I day dream about would be the bathroom. I want a huge claw foot tub, fireplace, skylights (not over the tub or toilet) and lots of plants.

Okay, the greenhouse conservatory that Andie McDowell has in the movie "Green Card"!
One note- That laundry room doesn't have a dryer! Which means it is a dual washer/dryer, which doesn't work very well, or it doesn't have a dryer. Unless it is hiding on the wall we can't see, which means it is too far away from the washer! :)

I want a big, big bathroom. With a spa. And a fainting couch. And a big square jacuzzi tub. And a huge 5 person (not that I'd let 5 people in at once!) shower with showerheads everywhere. And heated towel warmers. And an infrared warming light. And a bidet.
I've had tiny bathrooms all my life in case you hadn't noticed.

Dang it. Flickr deleted my laundry alcove.

I imagine a singular room atop my home, surrounded on all sides by my imaginary green roof. The floor would be natural wood; the walls neutral white. The room would beckon for sunlight; its colour palette defined by nature's season.
My dream room creates an serene sanctuary amidst urban frenzy. It separates the inside from the out, while bringing the outside in. It would be a place where thoughts are nurtured and observed; a place one can reconnect with oneself; a place where ego has no place.
Can you see it?

Nice laundry! Ours is this tiny little cramped space with a leaking washing machine that I practically have to climb in to to get stuff out of (I'm short) and a dryer I can't actually reach. (As SOON as I get my own place, I'm getting a washer-dryer frontloader!)
My dream room is a library / reading nook - I still live at home (twenty-one and a full-time student), and my room is the only place I have that is, essentially, my own. And it would be nice to have my own little place to store my many books and curl up and get away from my family for a bit! A change of scenery. You know.

My dream room is a well-proportioned 19th C (or very early 20th C) apartment, with proper high ceilings, plaster ceiling rosettes and molding and herringbone wood floors. There would be large windows and a lovely view, a creamy white tiled stove, and massive antique crystal chandelier. The room would open graciously into the next, which would be only slightly smaller.
You can still get these sorts of apartments in Prague; in fact, I am describing an apartment rental we stayed in during a recent vacation.

JG - I thought of the exact same room! The whole apartment in that film is amazing. I think my dream room wouldn't actually be a room but a big balcony or terrace because at the moment we don't have that in our home. I would even prefer this to a garden because it's less work.

My dream room would be a music room. It would have:
--room for a grand piano
--cabinets for other instruments and room to play them
--a bookcase full of sheet music
--another full of books about composers, theory, etc.
--comfortable seating to read said books
--a small seating area for listeners.
It would have plenty of light, good acoustics, and be soundproofed so as not to annoy anyone else in the house/apartment.

My dream room is a "writer's room" with a big table so that I can spread my pens and paper and notes about. Most importantly, it would have lots of light and a daybed, for when inspiration needs time to develop. It would have at least one wall full of books, and a comfortable lounge chair with a high-powered lamp above it (my eyes suck) for reading. It would have shag carpeting and a fireplace, and lots and lots of windows. It would have a computer desk, surrounded by discrete filing cabinets, with a nice, big flat screen monitor on it and a cushy keyboard. It would have white walls with lots of beautiful, bright paintings on them and pictures of people I love. Oh, and it would have maps or the world on the wall, including a large, detailed map of the city in which I'm living (currently DC, but who knows when I'll actually be able to have this room, so it could be elsewhere).

My dream room is also a laundry room. If I could just build a tiny addition to the side of my house, it would be there, and it would be perfect. I have a closet to do my laundry in right now....no place to put dirty laundry, no place to fold, no place to iron....I have 5 people in my house, I do alot of laundry. I wish I could c/p that laundry room right into my house....

My dream room is a design studio. Complete with exposed brick walls, plank wood flooring, huge windows, and lots of white surfaces.
I would need plenty of storage, an entire wall dedicated to inspiration (think oversized inspiration board), a very large table to lay out drawings and floor plans, and comfortable seating for guests that come to visit.
Oh! And an area for all of my books!

Uh, am I the only one with more than one dream room? *sheepish look*
I want a room dedicated to my creative side, so I can spread out and get messy and get creative but be able to shut the door on it when guests come or I just need a bit of serenity.
I want a room dedicated to my husband so he can get nerdy and hang anime posters and swords and whatnot to his heart's content and be able to shut the door on it when guests (namely relatives) come over so that I don't feel embarrassed.
I want a library full of beautiful books with lots of comfy seating and great lighting. I want the architecture in that room to be just goregeous.
I want a nice laundry room in my home. Not upstairs or downstairs requiring coins and sharing with strangers. Mine and mine alone. I don't care if it's the size of a closet, I just want it to be private.
Aaaand I want an amazing kitchen. Just amazing.
...
Am I being greedy? ;)

Mrs. Mack, I believe what you are describing is a whole dream HOUSE. I have one of those too, which of course includes the aforementioned mud room. Right now I am using some time off in between jobs to make my current house more dreamy.
I recently built a loft room for my son, inspired by Apartment Therapy's post about Tumedei's Tiramolla line. I love the way things are fitted together neatly and efficiently, like a puzzle. I am mostly finished with the room and he is living in it again. My artist daughter has time over the holidays to do some artwork for the walls, and I still have to build his desk and stairs, also inspired by Tiramolla line. I am using clearance items and scavenged furniture, most of which I already had. Total cost less than $200.
As I work my way through the clutter of this 2-story home (and the full finished basement), I am recycling, re-selling, cleaning and painting. The Killim beige of son's room has inspired a whole new palette for the stairs and halls.
Next dreamy room will be the girls room. Very small, has to house a crib, a twin bed and dresser that will also serve as a changing table when granddaughter visits weekly. Again I'm using mostly what I have. I hit the jackpot at a local yard sale and found a white iron Pottery Barn canopy bed and various accent pieces for a young girl's room. My college age daughter doesn't mind having a younger theme, and it will blend with the bright tourquoise and lime green comforter she already has. Bright and sunny.
After that...

well, i live in a studio. i kinda love the one room thing. so, my dream room isn't a room at all, i want a deck or a porch.

My dream room would have an "Endless Pool" swim spa in it. I love to swim but don't like public pools. The laundry room above is nice, however, a front-loading stackable (front loading washer & dryer) would be better for this space. My previous apartment had a washer/dryer hook-up so I had my own washer/dryer. I have always found doing laundry relaxing and in the space above I would add a small work table with an outlet, just in case. I now live in an apartment with a laundry room on the ground floor. You can imagine how I feel about shared laundry rooms. I go to my parent's home to do my laundry and their layout is similiar but this one has better cabinets and space planning.

Hello housefulloffur!
Do you have photos of the loft room you built for your son? I'm sure a lot of people would also love to see it.

p. starfish,
I'm not quite done. Maybe after Christmas? Just got a new kitten for the same child, so we're busy learning how to manage a 3 month old cat. I have to admit I am a little reluctant to post any photos with all of the negative comments people feel free to throw out. But maybe when we're done with the accents, I'll muster up the courage. I'm still working on refinishing a desk for him. Painted a blond desk and I'm not too happy with it...
