OLD BED BEFORE

Tell us the tools and resources you used for the project:
The only tool required was a few cans of Valspar Spray Paint in Mediterranean. It worked on both the mirror (wood) and the bed (metal).

MY TOOLS

Share step by step instructions for how you completed the project:

The bed and mirror both required two coats (no primer). The bed was spray painted before assembly.

Where is the chandelier from? It's exactly what I'm looking for!

Just curious - Why not keep the pretty quilt? It looks like it would match nicely with the paint job on the bed. And the additional pillows would look better.

The chandelier is from PBTeen. I just checked the site though and I don't think it's available any longer. :(
As for the quilt, in person it doesn't match. It has more true blues in it.
Thanks for the comments!

Nice colour! I think this room would look great if the mirror were moved (flipped vertically and hung either over one of the bedside tables, or on a small wall somewhere else in the room). It looks too small over the bed. I'd also love to see 2 sets of pillows on the bed - for colour and fullness. Nice changes to the bed though.

arza-I agree on both counts. I have already added a 2nd pillow, I was waiting for more fabric.

You have totally inspired me!! I have an old black Noresund bed frame from IKEA ~ very similar to the one you painted. I am getting rid of it when I move in with my BF here in a few months. My sister has been looking for a antique-looking bed to match some shabby chic furniture. I feel like an idiot that it never dawned on me to give her the old frame when I move and paint it. Thanks!!

Love the idea, might try it for my guest room. Reminds me of an affordable version of the Anthropologie chinoiserie bed
spray paint is so affordable, if you ever get tired of the blue you can just repaint, I'm totally stealing this idea

Good Job Eliz,
I like the colors you put together and also the pillows make it brighten up the room too. You have a lot of immagination and are very creative without spending a fortune. You can decorate for me anytime. Keep up the good work.

i really love this idea! i think i might try it on our IKEA bed that looks similar. Can you provide some more details about how you used the spray paint, and how you got both sides of the pieces? do you have to wait for it to dry before turning over? Any other tips for the paint application?

Also, how long does it take for the paint to stop smelling?

Thanks!!

Caliin-This brand of paint dries to the touch pretty quickly. I think you can flip it within 15 min-1/2 hour of coating. We just layed it out on cardboard in the garage to do it. You may need to sand a bit if you get any drips.
Unfortunately this paint is pretty smelly. We brought it into our room soon after it dried and that was probably a mistake as I smelled paint for near 2 weeks. I'd leave it out of the house as long as possible.
