Midwest #2: The NOT Kid Friendly Coffee Table Project

Name: Sarah
Location: Kingwood
Time: The wooden box took the most time, a few hours. The upholstery only took about 2 hours. Total project time approx 6 hours.
Cost: About $35 in wood and hardware, then approx. $30 in fabric and batting. (Good deal on the fabric. :)

Sarah took on the challenge of stylishly baby-proofing a very un-kid-friendly table. All the details including photos of the remarkably different looking "before" are below the jump along with the survey for VOTING...

MY TOOLS

Share step by step instructions for how you completed the project:

1. Measure the coffee table. Build a wooden cover for the table using plywood,1x6 boards, wood screws and L-backets for support. (If you have a wooden coffee table you could omit this step.)
2. Cover the entire (including the sides) box with a few layers of batting. Staple to the underside of the wooden cover.
3. Cover the entire box with fabric of your choice. Staple to the underside of the box, and be sure to carefully tuck the corners.

The box then sits over the existing table top? Very cool and nice if you ever wanted to switch the fabric (easy!) or go back to the original table. However, with that yummy zebra look, I sure wouldn't! :)

Why not build the box as a new table and add four new legs from Ikea or so?

Would be a lot lighter to move around.
